Georgia O’Keeffe(1887-1986) was an American artist best know for her abstracted painting of flowers, New York landscapes, and New Mexico landscapes. Considered the mother of American Modernism, O’Keeffe became one of the most important painters of the 1920’s. In the 70’s feminists celebrated her as the originator of “female iconography”, but O’Keeffe rejected the celebration of her work in that light.
