Last week, we showed you how to set up a mail merge file. Now that you can do that, it’s time to decide which envelope is best for your project. There are a lot of different styles out there, and we we’re here to help wade through it all. Today we’re going to discuss the different types of envelopes out there and what they’re used for to help you choose the envelope that will help make your work go the extra mile.
Commercial
This is the most common envelope people receive, so you probably recognize it. Also referred to as Officials, they are used for many commercial and personal correspondence. They generally come with diagonal seems and can have a pointed or square flap. One can also get commercial envelopes with windows. The No. 10 envelope is the common size seen for this type of envelope as it’s perfect for a folded 8.5×11 sheet.
Catalog
These envelopes are used for heavy mailings. They have a center seam with a wallet flap. A Wallet flap is longer than standard envelope flaps, and have a larger gummed area to add extra protection to the envelope. These would be used for catalogs(obviously), magazines, folders, and reports to name a few of the common usages.
A-Style
A-Style envelopes are used for sending announcements, small booklets, brochures, greeting cards, and—in some cases—distinctive business stationary. A-Style envelopes have a side seam construction with large square flaps.
Baronial
Primarily used for invitations and greetings, Baronial envelopes have diagonal seams and a pointed flap.
Square
Square envelope are generally used for advertising pieces, invitations, and other unique communications. They have side seams with square flaps
Coin Envelopes
Envelopes great for small items. Generally used to hold money and small parts.
