MANHATTAN
A quintessential New York City cocktail, the Manhattan is a whiskey drink with bitters and vermouth. Traditionally served wit rye whiskey, but sometime they can be made with Canadian whiskey, bourbon, blended whiskey, and Tennessee whiskey. It is said the cocktail originated at the Manhattan Club in the 1870s by Dr. Ian Masrshall. He made the drink for a banquet honoring Samuel J. Tilden. The success of the banquet made the drink fashionable, and prompted people to request the drink by the name of the club in which it originated.
