Heart Tower, located near Columbus Circle in Manhattan, is the world headquarters of the Hearst Corporation. The building was actually build in two parts many years apart. The six-story stone base of the tower was commissioned by William Randolph Hearst—Founder of the Hearst Corporation—in 1928. It was always supposed to be the base for a skyscraper, but the rest of the construction was posponed due to the Great Depression. The rest of the towers was completed in 2006, nearly eighty years after the construction initally started. The first “Green” highrise in Manhattan, the Hearst Tower was build with a variety of sustainable systems, and was constructed with 85% recycled materials.
