New Yorkers everywhere thought the Second Avenue was a myth like the elusive mole people that live in the subway tunnels, or a beach without garbage. However, 2017 has already started on a high note with the opening of the long awaited Second Avenue subway. Well, the first phase of the line at least. Originally proposed in 1919, the train will run down Second Avenue in the hope to alleviate some of the pressure of the 4,5,6 line. Indicated by a light blue line on the subway maps, the line will run from 125th street to Hanover Square. That’s the hope at least. The MTA is hoping the get the funding the finish of the line within the next century. But right now, you can start the New Year off hopeful as you take the Second Avenue subway line from 63rd to 96th and back again.
