Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic
By: Alison Bechdel
Published: 2006
Genre: Graphic Novel/Memoir
An autobiogrpahic graphic novel Fun Home, by American cartoonist Alison Bechdel, chronicles the author’s life growing up in rural Pennsylvania. The novel focuses in on her complex relationship with her father: the owner of the funeral home attached to their house. The book is a griping tale of the “slice of life” dealing with growing up, sexuality, and one’s relationship to one’s parents. The simply, yet effective drawing style of the book makes the reader get more involved with the story. A truly relatable story of growing up in a quiet slow novel. What this books lacks in physical action, it makes up for in the detail and intricacies of real relationships.
