As part of Brooklyn Museum’s “A Year of Yes”, Marilyn Minter’s work is on display in her first ever retrospective: Pretty/Dirty. The show displays the breath of work spanning more than four decades. two galleries are filled with the artist’s photorealistic and pop-up art pieces that deal with themes of sex, food, and the exploitation of the world of beauty. The images are engrossing and, well… gross. Not for the faint of heart the imagery dives deep into the disgusting and over sexualized complex of the beauty industry. However, if you can stomach fully realized zits, slurping mouths, and dirt feet, this show is a must see!
